Mr. Bryan Robertson
The Whitechapel Art Gallery
High Street
London N.1
England

Dear Bryan,

I succeeded after considerable effort, you can believe me, in securing all the Johns paintings that are now at the Biennale, for your exhibition. I also gave instructions to the Documenta people to send you HIGHWAY, PERISCOPE and FLAG ON ORANGE FIELD, c/o Beltch and Fairhead

I asked Ileana to ship you the following paintings:

PAINTING WITH RULER AND GRAY
FLAG ABOVE WHITE
RECONSTRUCTION
GRAY PAINTING WITH SPOON
GRAY TARGET
DEVICE ' 62 (see letter to her that is enclosed)

She will, however, need a letter from you giving her instructions.

I am in the process of doing the best I can to secure for you all the paintings and drawings that are located in the United States. Enclosed is a list of all the collectors to whom you will have to write formal loan requests specifying in each case the title of the painting or paintings and drawings, with the usual assurances concerning the good care that will be taken, proper insurance coverage etc... You should perhaps mention that Keating & Co., Inc. will take care of the shipping from here, so perhaps it would be good to tell Belton & Fairhead to inform them about the imminence of this project.

I am requesting from Nulten,* SLOW FIELD, and from Georges Maret,* PASSAGE, 0 THROUGH 9,( Polka Dot ), 0-9, FIG. 1 (drawing). They should both, of course, be written too

You will also receive paintings from here (U.S.A.) that were not in the Jewish Museum Retrospective and are not in the Biennale:
