I called 'Charlene' is now proudly displayed in the _______ Museum, Amsterdam. It has a light going on and off and also...has become...there's the skeleton of a multicolored parisol. The impression I had of that show -- I remember it quite vividly -- was of the Coney Island situation; it was so vivid.

Take 5

Ques: What was the public reaction to those red paintings that were in the Eagan show?

Leo: I really think there was not at that time involved in actual official gallery work... I really don't remember exactly what people thought about it. I was terribly impressed about that Eagan show. I think it was one of the last ones that he ever had, and it was not in his old gallery but in the new one that then Ellie _________ took over. I was terribly impressed by that show and I thought it was a real masterpiece. Then I...well, I saw Bob more often here and there, but not really too much until I decided to open my own gallery. And I made the decision, oh I would say...toward the end of 1955, and he certainly was one of my candidates. Although I didn't really quite know what I was going to do. Then with one stroke I got him two months after the opening of my gallery in February of 1957. In one stroke I got him and, and [[strikethrough]][[?]][[/strikethrough]] Jasper Johns. And they really were at that time, and still are, the core...they say...of my stable.
