Dear Jake:

You really sound as if you love Seattle and that's so good!

I have taken care of writing Professor Collins at Fisk.

Regarding your book we have talked with Abrams and they said too that things were moving along well with Carroll Greene. Charles says the Denman painting has never been photographed. Perhaps a Seattle photographer could take a picture for you.

All the information regarding your paintings was compiled from the American Archives' Downtown Gallery file, and the Alan Gallery files. All the photographs available to us were given to Mr. Greene, 324. From the enclosed letter you can see Charles' letter for Fisk asking them to go ahead with the photographing of the L'OUVERTURE Series. He is also writing to the Detroit Institute of Fine Arts inquiring if they own the Frederick Douglas paintings. We sent no slides to Greene for as you know 5x7 transparencies are needed for reproduction. We do have some large tranparencies here at the gallery.

A traveling exhibition would be great in conjunction with the book being published and of course we would cooperate in every way. We have found, however, that many collectors are extremely reluctant to lend their paintings especially for a traveling show for the paintings get much wear - even being handled by museums. But it's a good idea and I'm sure many museums would be more than interested.

Lots of greetings from us all to you and Gwen-

Best,
Luise
