Dear Terry -

Since the Smithsonian [[strikethrough]] Institution [[/strikethrough]] is a prestigious public organization and it is a "good" thing to be represented in the National Collection of Fine Arts, I would agree to its purchase [[strikethrough]] of the [[/strikethrough]] of "Daybreak, a Thril to Rest", asking price $7,500 which you quoted me in our telephone conversation.

I am not eager to part with the painting, and I would not do so under other circumstances - for example purchase by a private collector.

Let me know if negotiations are still in progress so that I can ship the painting on to you.

Regard to all at the gallery [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] with wishes for a prosperous 1973 -
