The Honorable Walter E. Washington
Mayor
Washington, D.C.

Dear Mayor Washington:

I was deeply honored by your proclamation of September 8, 1972 as "Alma W. Thomas Day" on the occasion of the opening of my retrospective exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. When I came to Washington 65 years ago, little did I imagine that I would ever be the recipient of so high an honor. I hope that this event will serve to inspire and encourage aspiring young artists in Washington, D. C.

Thank you for your continued interest in my work and for making September 8 the most memorable day of my life.

Sincerely yours,

Alma W. Thomas
