Dear Mr. Smith:

Further to my letter of April 6, this is to enclose airline tickets and hotel reservations for you and your wife for your trip to Detroit and to submit for your review proposed arrangements for the May 20 picnic beside the Gracehoper.

Suzanne Hilberry had indicated to me your desire to have Sam Wagstaff attend this event with you. Given his role in arranging the location of the Gracehoper here in the Detroit Institute of Arts, we feel that this is a splendid idea. Andrew Camden, President of the Junior Council, invited Sam Wagstaff last week and I am in the process of making his trip arrangements, which would include the same flight arrangements and times that we made for you and your wife.

As you know, the event itself will be a picnic. Junior Council members in particular have been invited and have been encouraged to bring their children. (A copy of the invitation is enclosed.) A broad area of the north lawn of the Institute on the Woodward Avenue side of the Gracehoper will be cordonned off and the picnickers will be seated on their blankets, at least while eating. Andrew Camden would introduce you and also acknowledge the attendance of Dr. Cummings, Sam Wagstaff and others who may be in attendance who were instrumental in bringing the Gracehoper to the Detroit Institute of Arts.

This general scheme raises several questions with respect to your preferences:

1. Location of Audience. The audience can either remain seated on their blankets or can gather somewhat more closely around you and the Gracehoper as you give your talk. The advantage of their remaining seated is that the audience as seated, particularly children, may be able to view the Gracehoper from a better perspective. The potential disadvantage is that this obviously cannot be done if you were planning to have them observe the Gracehoper from different viewpoints as you talked. What is your preference on this and if you want the audience
