"Prospect" June 1st, 1873 Sunday P.M.
Home again On Thursday May 15th. I left New York together with Aunt Nancy and Mary, for Oxford We remained one night in Utica and the following morning Aunt and I went down the valley, she on to Green. I hired a horse and buggy and drove up to Grandfather. Mother came down from the door to meet us, all was well. I remained there until Tuesday Morning when Mother and I traveled to Buffalo where we remained that night thence on the next day to Cleveland remaining there till the following night our duty here was a very sad one viz to learn all we could of the death of my unfortunate Uncle Fred who died in the Work House the 5th of April so our time was devoted to this sad duty on Friday morning we got off at 22nd St. and walked over to Franks where we found Nannie just rising from Breakfast Frank had gone down town. She was a pretty little wife and loves F dearly I walked down to the store Business is not good and Father has been much discouraged about the prospects. I hope the clouds will clear away tho' That afternoon we came down to the old Farm and as a proof of my affection for the old place I may say I have not been in the city since I came and would not go were it not that I must be earning some money or my Father will think something dreadful is going to happen. I have much to write about but Monte cristo is too interesting to devote my time this way
