(54 rue des Sts Paris)

In the Studio Sunday morning Dec 6th 1874. All my personal and household duties are completed and after drumming a few moments on the guitar I notice that it is twenty minutes past ten and if I wish to write a few lines in this much neglected book I had better soon commence. My weekly letter home was written last evening as I returned from Swisses with my drawing at eight o'clock and find an evening spent by my warm fire and under the cheerful influence of my lamp much more agreeable than a tiresome sitting at the club, particularly when I can amuse myself by chatting in a letter to Mother. Since I last wrote my "page" I have tried to be industrious and certianly have done some work but I am far from satisfied

perhaps to speak honestly I have averaged between six and seven hours a day not including my french study some times I think that I have too many acquaintances and that the chorouses up in the studio receive too much attention I certainly work more earnestly here in my room Entirely alone than at the Atelier and my work is better. I feel much encouraged by my drawings in the evening and I have reason to think que he marche. Duran was quite pleased with several I showed him Friday. And yet I want to do more work. and I must, here is my perspective and anatomy which I intended to keep up all winter. I have not opened since the concours for several weeks in the the Atelier I have devoted myself entirely to heads and also occasional afternoons chez moi
