Onteora, to Hannibal in commemoration of its most distinguished citizen, provided they had any place to receive it - So, I wrote a letter to the Mayor of Hannibal confiding to him my intention. I received a breezy and gracious reply, saying that they had never thought of having an Art Museum, but that he would be glad to receive the picture and hang it up in his store and care for it — he dealt in tobacco and cigars. I am glad since that this did not eventuate, as I consider that head of Clemens is one of my best bits of work, and I hope it may some day go to a place where it may be useful as an example of my painting — But to return to my start.
