our progenitors are set forth to great length, the first one having come from Yorkshire England in 1635 and settled on the Connecticut river where he was a ship builder. I once made a visit to Lyme Conn where I found the old cemetery full of plantations of the bones of my ancestors. As has been the history of many of our New England families, some adventurous spirit turned his face to the west but only to the heart of New York state on the verdant hills of Chenango County. There Daniel Beckwith settled upon his farm, when again the spirit of the pioneer was awakened and he went forth leaving his wife and little son Seth to care for the farm while he searched a wider horizon in the state of Illinois.
