along about 25th Street It was a large house but it was filled with homeless refugees like ourselves All the beds were occupied and together with Harvey Honore and another whose name I have forgotten we decided to keep a watch in the Library We took turns occupying the sofa while another lay with some cushions under the piano and the watcher kept awake reading A few days after my Father had made temporary arrangements to show the house of Dr Samuel Jones who was a bachelor and occupied a little house on the east side of Wabash Avenue near 13th Street ^[[insert]] No 758 [[/insert]] I remember that my mother did a great deal of charity work in which I helped her as all the churches were thrown open as lodgings for the homeless on soup kitchens were established I also went with Dr Jones as his helper
