pictures by Landseer seemed to me quite perfect. There was nothing exaggerated either in color or type. They all seemed to me beautifully artistic and dexterously done. Also they brought recollections of my home where mezzotint engraved reproductions ornamented the walls of our library in Chicago. These handsome prints I understand are now sold for a dollar apiece in our cheap department stores. I can only say that even from my belated standpoint today, I consider them works of taste and of an Artistic accomplishment that few modern painters can rival.
