Mr. Vernon C. Porter, Director
Riverside Museum
310 Riverside Drive
New York City

Dear Mr. Porter:

Enclosed is the foreword to the Hine catalog. I have delayed sending it to you because I have been trying to clear up several points first.

I enclose also the text for one of the acknowledgements, which should be put somewhere in the catalog.

Miss Abbott has not been able to reach Miss Bourke-White, Mrs. Little of the Times, or Mr. Crandall of the Herald Tribune during the holidays.

I contacted Dr. Frankfurter at the Art News and Mr. Boswell at the Art Digest and arranged to send them material about the exhibition. I shall also need photographs to send them, which I understood Hine would send to me directly. I wrote Popular Photography and American Photography, in answer to the letters you forwarded to me. I have had no answer from the former and a rather nasty letter from the latter. When I see you, I should like to discuss the ethics of publishing Fraprie's letter, if it does not embarrass the Museum, because it seems to me to represent a very reactionary attitude.

Mr. Stryker telephoned today and left the message that Hine is to call McGoldrick or Mr. Hazlitt in the City Comptroller's Office. I have written to Hine special delivery but in case he doesn't get the letter, will you please ask him to call the first thing when he comes to the Museum in the morning. He is also to call Tugwell.

Sincerely yours,

Elizabeth McCausland
