UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE [[strikethrough]] RESETTLEMENT ADMINISTRATION [[/strikethrough]] FARM SECURITY ADMINISTRATION WASHINGTON January 23rd, 1939 IN REPLY REFER TO Miss Elizabeth McCausland 56 W. 53rd Street New York City Dear Elizabeth: Congratulations on a very nice job of managing the show for Lewis Hine! You have done an excellent service, and I hope that St. Peter will add one solid gold string to your harp. I am so glad that Lewis Hine is getting some attention now, while he is able to appreciate it. His pictures are bound to take a more important place in the history of American photography, and as a part of the history of America. I haven't had a chance to get up and see the exhibit, but will, probably next week. I was, unfortunately, kept in Washington on the day of the opening. I liked your article in the last U.S. Camera very much. It all adds up to a damn good job for Hine. Those of us who know him, do appreciate the time and attention that you gave to this. Regards to Berenice. Sincerely yours, Roy Roy E. Stryker 3000 39th Street, N.W. RES/mb [[image - logo]] McCAUSLAND ARCHIVES OF AMERICAN ART
