States that he ordered his clerk to go to Raleigh N.C. to take property returns to Mayor F P Johnston A.Q.M. to ascertain whether they were correct or not and if incorrect to get the necessary blanks and instructions to make them properly - that he ordered him to carry the Weekly Report and deliver it to Col. Brady - Also, told him to see Lieut Gardner and get transportation both ways. Respectfully returned. I am surprised at the tone of your letter and consider it un-military Chaplain Glavis and their officers in the US. service are supposed to understand how to make out their papers. I know of no authority whereby officers are allowed to send clerks to obtain for them at the expense of Government. When officers desire any information relative to making out papers it should be obtained through the regular military channels. I have no right to send a civilian with a verbal message to any A.A.A Govt If I am entitled [[strikethrough]]f[[/strikethrough]] to transportation for such person I make application in writing thro the regular Military channels to the proper officer and shall require all officers serving under me to do the same All business connected with the Bureau in the Sub Districts must be transacted through these Hd.Qrs.
