94 Curren J.F. Capt V.R.C. and Asst Supt 86.83.97 Hd. Qrs. Sub Dist Johnston Smithfield May 26th 1866 Applies for advice respecting bound children of free colored parents. Continuation of endorsements. Ends't of Capt Curren. Respectfully returned to Col. Cilley A.A.G. &c thro Col Brady Supt Central Dist with information that these children were bound out under existing laws of N.C. which require County Courts to bind out children of free colored parents that are deemed unable to provide employment and the necessarys of life viz - food, clothing until 21 years of age. " As an apprentice and servant and the master agrees to instruct or cause &c, said apprentice to be instructed in the mysterys of farming and provide said apprentices with food clothing and things necessary in sickness and in health" No education nor remuneration during service nor pay finally.
