Raleigh N.C. with the information that I have this day paid Tom Griffith the Freedman within named the sum of ($6.60) six dollars and sixty cents the amt. of his claim against Calvin Mitchell within named, as found to be due on investigation by Lieut. McAlpine V.R.C. Asst. Supt. Sub Dist. Raleigh. I also hold, subject to the orders of said Griffith a receipt for (2.00) Two dollars
