Versailles is another of the palaces of Louis 14th.  It is not more than two or three miles from St Cloud - and the building is in good condition. 

It gives one an idea of the style of life of the monarchs of France - and of the causes of the revolution.

We were four hours in going through about 2/3 of it.  There appear to be about as many pictures in Versailles as there are in the Louvre - which was the principal palace in Paris.  The Louxembourg was another.  But the pictures at Versailles were mostly by French painters and were either portraits or battle scenes or historical pictures belonging to the reign of each monarch.  I did not find them interesting in an art way - and so passed on quickly from room to room and
