of the river. I have great hopes of being able to get away from here on the morning tide. For it offers very little as far as I can see to the artist.

We have been ashore here at Fredericka and walked a mile to see an old church which proved to be a square brick box-like building. Stopped at the post office but got no letters. The creek all the way up from the bay is a narrow stream between walls of grass six or eight ft high. At the mouth is a collection of little cottages and tents a sort of sea side resort.

There was also a resort at the mouth of Broad-kill which I inspected last night. It is a little better than my first impression. There was one cottage with cemented walks, quite an attractive lot of flowers and a rambling porch all around. The others were smaller, but the people seemed a very decent lot and evidently go for the sea breeze - for there is not a store, post office pavillion or merry go round in the place.

This is the worst place we have been for mosquitoes our cabin is full of them and every time we go out we let more recruits in.
