July 30, 1983 (Saturday)

I should have known something was wrong when I saw the dead deer by the road. Approaching the site of this sculpture, I saw what [[strikethrough] abd and [[/strikethrough]] was about to happen.

The roadway had been widened by the scrapper clear up to the yards of most of the houses along the road and nearly to the steps of the church.

With a sinking feeling in my chest, I drove close to the spot , parked and slowly walked up to the site.

Glancing back over my path, I spotted [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] the blue markers. Tracing a line with my eye, I moved straight over my work and with lots of room to spare, headed the line into the woods, along the road path inside the cemetery. They were bringing the road nearly up to the grave of a person who died in the early 1800's.

I got in the car after almost running back, and edged right up to the stones as closely as possible and got out [[strikethrough]] q [[/strikethrough]] withmy [[with my]] glo ves [[gloves]] on.

Aside from ridding around with rocks in my car, I also ride around with [[strikethrough]] grloves [[/strikethrough]] work gloves [[strikethrough]] . [[/strikethrough]] in the back seat.

Taking the smaller pieces first, I placed the heaviset [[heavyset]] section in the front with me.

I didn't even consider finding another place in the same area.

Nothing was the same. the landscape was again to be changed. The road out of there had also changed. The landscape was again not be changed. the road out of there has also changed. A new wide portion had been cut through and, not paying attention, I took the new one and got lost. Getting out wasn't hard but I was sad. The wild flowers had been uprooted anf [[and]] not much was left but the wonderful high, clear view. In a little while, I guess, that, too, will be no more. So the photos I have are all that's left of the abandoned sculpture on Pea Ridge Road. Back on the paved road, I made a U turn to pick up adiscarded [[a discorded]] rust colored seat pillow. In the blazing sunlight, an indignant young deer glared at me until my car was out of sight.
