Following is a detailed listing of expenses associated with my food budget for 1993 - 1994 to supplement justification for a recently submitted grant for $25,000 to assist with prescriptive medicines and necessities.

Over the past decade my health has dramatically deteriorated and many new allergies have cropped up as a result of many medications prescribed to treat these medical maladies. I have been a life-long asthmatic and as a result of prolonged use of the only effective drug, Prednizone [[Prednisone]], I have developed it's known side effect Diabetes. The expenses involved in the daily care and maintenance of just these two diseases are expensive and requires strict adherence to a total Fat-Free diet.

On the medical side, my asthma requires clean, pure air. Installed in my central air and heating system is a series of electrostatic filters. My studio, which is my daily working environment, is separated from the main living area of my house and does not receive the benefit from the air conditioning and filter system. Therefore, when funds can be raised, this area must be remodled [[remodeled]]. At the direction of my one physician, a battery-operated portable respirator is installed in my truck.

My Diabetes, medically, requires as sterile an environment as possible since blood has to be taken and insulin shots given daily.

On the food and nutrition side of these delicately balanced scales, expenses have escalated quickly as my need for fat-free foods has increased and as other food-related allergies surfaced. For example, some of the foods which I cannot eat are white potatoes, beans, peas, carrots, beets and peanuts to name a few. Therefore, eating a well-balanced meal absent of these is quite a challenge. All fat-free products, as we all know, are priced at least 30% higher that "regular" like products.
