My dear Niehaus

I have been wanting to write to you since sometime in hopes to ascertain better information of my mothers affairs and how every thing goes on at home. 

I know that you and Josephine are nearer to my mother than any of the rest of the family although I regularly get [[strikethrough]] get [[/strikethrough]] letters from Charlie but I am in doubt if he could give it quite as well as you could. I suppose that Charlie and Mollie make [[strikethrough]] make [[/strikethrough]] ends meet at home and John of course has always the rough end of it.

Charlie informs me in his last letter that Joe has appealed to you and [[strikethrough]] mama[[/strikethrough]] my Mother to help him out in the paying of his gambling debts. I must say that I was most disgusted to hear this. I know that his
