Dear Dorothy: Jan. 6th. 1963

Your card from Guernavaca reached me before Christmas, and I delayed writing, expecting any minute news to send you. No, I have not given up hope that we will have a show together.

Caroline Liebig was here, she is on Museum Board, and like every Museum person when they see my work, become interested in an exhibition. So at her suggestion, I have written a formal letter asking if the Los Angeles Museum would be interested in a joint show of the both of us.

Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, head of the All India Handicraft Board spent a week with me at Christmas. From several things she had heard, confirmed my own impression, that David Campbell throws cold water on projects. I continue to think therefore that that is what happened when Mrs. Pope made her New York visit. For prior to that time she was enthusiastic about making our show " the most exiting". As no one from the Contemporary Craft Museum has been near my place, nor seen my finest work, it is too bad. I hope Mrs. Pope will be coming to California, and then the idea of a show at the Smithsonina can be revived.

As I may have a book coming out in the Spring, and for other reasons, I have by-passed for the present a trip back to India. Nestled as I am in an ivory tower of beauty and peace in Ojai, I still long to fly to other ends of the world. I have conflict between people and art. Art is the easiest to respond to because there is no opposition, but people are the most exciting when one is open and interested in them. I am enclosing the foreward Kamaladevi has written for my book.

Your card said you are hoping to see me, does this hold the good fortune that you may be comming toCalifronia before long? I have never met Pat!

Much love,

Beatrice
