Mr. Robert Rauschenberg
c/o Leo Castelli Galleries
4 East 77th Street
New York, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Rauschenberg:

We are delighted that you are going to be here as our visiting artist in the Hopkins Center during the Winter term.

It is my understanding that you are to receive a fee of $2600 for a six week period and that you will pay your own living expenses. I can make arrangements for a nice room for you at a Lodge near the Center and the Art Department. The rate is $36.00 a week. You can eat your meals there or at other places around the College and the town. There will be an attractive snack bar across the hall from your studio.

Mr. Wagner tells me that in addition to doing your own work, you will also work with some of our more advanced students.

We would like to have you here around the middle of January. The Winter term ends on March 13. As your committment [commitment] to us is for six weeks, if you would prefer to come some later than the middle of January, I think that this would be all right with Mr. Wagner. I would, however, like to point out that the skiing is usually better in January and February than it is in March.

We are looking forward to having you here. If you have any questions about anything in this letter, the teaching, or if there is anything else we can do for you here before you arrive, please do not hesitate to write either to Mr. Wagner or to me.

Sincerely yours

Warner Bently
