Dear Rauschenberg

You may be aware that next year's edition of the Venice Biennial will have, as its central theme, Art and science. A sector will be dedicated to Art and Alchemy, and I have been asked to be its curator. I would like to study the opportunity of inviting you to exhibit in my sector and would be most grateful if you would help me reach a decision by answering the following questions:

1.) Do you think you are concerned by the theme Art and Alchemy? In case you are, please say why.

2.) In case you are, which works of yours would you single out as being most representative; please send photographs (if available colour transparencies) of such works, specifying: Title, date, medium, size (in centimeters, height before width), present ownership, whether available, eventually, for the Venice Biennial (June - October 86)

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience, and with best wishes for your activities, and a very pleasant summer, I am,

Yours sincerely

Arturo SCHWARZ

P.S. Should you be aware of any other artist interested by the same theme, please let me have your suggestions (although the artists I plan to invite are already 80 – including Duchamp, Ernst, Giacometti, Marron, etc.) I may have forgotten somebody.
