Major Theme By Enough Of An Event, Torn poster collage 22" x 35" (C)1983

While working with torn poster collage my aim has been a visual poetry of contrary and similar elements. Inspired by such masters of this medium as Rotella and Villeglè, I have tried to create an image drawn from my environment - lifted from the streets of New York City and filtered through mind and hands. Like an urban archeologist I have plucked my finds from the city's walls and peeled away layers to expose only those elements essential to a lyrical representation. Unknown collaborators have contributed to the outcome of my work by their arbitrary additions; I have altered their assemblage through a number of subtractive moves. The result of these interactions is a series of cloudshaped images which exposes my relation to reality.

To evoke the positive spirit of ancient times in a contemporary setting - to bring the old and new together to show harmony in the world. The materials I use best convey this message.
