art interest absolutely childish compared to what we are after 

I expected that this trip would knock the pins from under me but I can honestly repeat what I already wrote you. That since our second time in Blandford weve been on the right track

The old mans later work is still wonderful in its virtuosity, but he never takes a chance. What I used to think was rich strong color, now seems lifeless and like clay. 

I go to seem him again tomorrow he says I can have any picture I want. It was touching , he was so glad to see me, and to hear

that I was always true to art.- 

Yesterday I spent most of the day with my cousins, who were very nice. The one I like the most is a young druggist (23), who has the right view of life. We took a shine to each other immediately. I last saw him 11 years ago. 

I have now the beautiful job of straightening out my books, and thinking hard on future actions, - policy in selection etc.

Then I go calling on the shining lights of "Deutscher Kunst"

Its funny, with these people as soon as they leave the schools and receive titles they think they can sit back and just "print out" their art. They are all patronizing and "masterful"
