Roy Lichtenstein heir file -

July 9, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Burton Tremaine
99 Center St.
Meriden, Conn. 06450

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Tremaine:

As I mentioned in our recent conversation, the National Endowment for the Arts has made a very substantial grant to The Art Galleries of California State University, Long Beach for the purpose of documenting and exhibiting Roy Lichtenstein's ceramic works. As there are fewer than 30 pieces, only 16 of which were exhibited as a group at the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1965, we are most anxious, as is the artist, to provide the public a retrospective view of these most important and seldom seen works.

We do most sincerely hope you will agree to lend to the exhibition, scheduled for February-March 1977. Of course we are aware of the extreme fragility of the ceramics; therefore funds have been allotted for every special packing, shipping and handling precaution. Also, works will be fully insured wall to wall.

An extensive color book/catalogue will be published in conjunction with the exhibition and we look forward to a most successful project which will once again assemble this unique portion of Lichtenstein's oeuvre.

The artist and the University together request your support, and therefore in the hope of a favorable response, a loan form is enclosed.

Sincerely yours,
[signature]
