May 1. 1865 States that there is now on trial in Circuit Court Ky, two cases against Steamer Amanda, belonging to County of which he is agent, for carrying off two Negro women, (slaves) the claim in each case is limited to $500 to debar the defendents from taking them into a Federal Court, and there he says, there is no chance of defense for he cannot go to Kentucky with safety to attend trial Thinks they are only test cases; many others each, being behind, Desires to know if relief cannot possibly be extended to his comply in these cases. |
