Dear Sir

Most cordially do I commend to your confidence Mr. R. J. Miller who for the past two or three years has been one of the most active & efficient Agents of the U.S. Christian Commission He has some thoughts that a field of usefulness may lie before him in connection with the Freedmen. 

I take pleasure in saying that Mr. Miller is a young man of great integrity, good judgment, & active [[strikethrough]] plie [[/strikethrough]] piety & would prove himself a decided acquisition in any field of Christian labor.

Heartily congratulating you on your recent appointment, & with the earnest hope that our nation's ordeal will soon result in harmony & happiness to its entire population.
