Learning that John J. Colton Esq of this city is an applicant for the Office of Superintendent of Colored Schools, it gives me pleasure to state that I have been well acquainted with him for several years past as assistant Master of our High School, and that he is here universally respected & confided in as a competent teacher, a good disciplinarian, a kind amiable & public spirited man, and a consistent Christian. I cannot doubt that he will ably and conscientiously discharge the duties of any office which he may undertake to fill.
