General:

Permit me to express my gratification upon your safe return to your post. I have continued to act from the necessities of the case in the capacity in which I was so long employed under the military Governor, without, knowing what my prospects are for a continuance under the Bureau. My labors have been even more arduous from the fact of Capt. Ferre being called to act as Supt. of the District. I never have had a leisure hour since I arrived in Alexa to look about for an easier or more lucrative position, but have endeavored to find contentment in the fact that my hands were full of important labor. And now, though I should be glad to see you and present my claims in person, yet I prefer to leave the matter in a measure
