morng. for Washington under the Genl. orders relieving Genl. officer. From what I have seen of the General I rather regret that he must leave. He seems to be one of the most sound[[strikethrough]] est [[/strikethrough]] men on the question we are interested in I have met.

I shall leave on the next train for Tallahassee where I hope to see Genls. Foster & Newton. I fear I shall miss Genl. Foster as I hear he takes the next boat from Key West to N. Orleans. I think however that I shall get the affairs straightened out soon.
