we have some little furniture, our military are too limited to take us back by Rail. Unless the Govt in its magnanimity renders us some assistance, our only alternative is to sell our little effects and take the common "High way" and walk through the mountains of East Tennessee.

Though in our own country, we are strangers here and not knowing who to appeal to we direct our application to you, in the hope you will as all in your point to give us transportation to our homes. Not being personally known to you we have a friend in Washington City at present, Mr. H.N. Wilson, family of Greenville Ten who will vouch for our characters and standing.

With our best wishes for your personal safety and our prayers for the special blessings of all mighty God on your labors we remain
