Maj. Genl. Howard
Commissioner of the Bureau of Freedmen,

General,

I would respectfully ask that I may be employed in your Department either as sub Commissioner or Agent being desirous of assisting as far as lays in my power in finishing up the work so well begun.

I have just been mustered out of the service having been three years in the Army of the Potomac.

Should you deem this worthy your attention and can give me a place be assured it will be gratefully received.

Any references you may require will be cheerfully given.

Respectfully your Obedt. Servt.
