Having been privately informed that the Hon. Secretary of War would, at your request, detail Chaplains for special dtuy in connection with the Freedmen's Bureau, I would herewith respectfully make application for such detail.

As Chaplain I have served over three years in "the front" with the Army of the Potomac, and ten months in the Satterlee U.S.A. General Hospital at West Philadelphia. In these capacities I have received the commendations of my officers and the regiments to which
