Major Gen. O.O. Howard
Freedman's Bureau
Washington D.C.

General
I take the liberty of laying before you this application for employment in your Department. I am a minister of Methodist Episcopal Church West Va. Conference, and have been recently mustered out of the United States Service, in which I served, as Chaplain of the 7 West Va. Vet Vols, Infy, 3d Brig, 2nd Div, 2nd Corps, Army of the Potomac, upwards of two years. I should esteem it a great favour were you to give me a position somewhere, where I might be useful to the Coloured man and to my country and also to myself. I think I am pretty well acquainted with the wants and wishes, and know how to manage the coloured population, as, for the last 18 years of my life, I have sustained, the relation of Pastor to hundreds of them in the bound of our present State.

I can present any testimonials as to my character
