I resigned & retired from the service. Near the close of Apl following 1863 I was appointed by the President Hosp. Chaplain & entered upon duty at Louisville Ky. where I remained till about the middle of July 1864 - three months of this time as a volunteer in the Small Pox Hosp - when I was transfered to the Grant Gen. Hosp. Willets Point N.J. Harbor where I remained till the Hosp. was broken up early in June of the present year 1865 - & was honorably discharged a few weeks after July 8th -65.

I have thus been engaged with service for three years & would be glad to return to the same in some capacity should a suitable opportunity present

Yours very truly
Wm. L. Mather
