Office of Chief Quarter Master
Department of Washington
Washington Sept 27th 1865

Maj. Genl. O.O. Howard
Freedmans Bureau
Washington

Sir: - I take this liberty in seeking employment and hope it will not be trespassing too much on your most valuable time

I am a practical Architect & mechanic of thirty five years experience. My business was nearly all in the South at the breaking out of the rebelion, in consequence of which I am now quite unable to establish it had I the means to do so.

I commenced my Country's Service Aprl. 22nd 1861 & with an impaired constitution- received an honorable Discharge May 28th 1864. From October then next, I have been preparing record plans of all the buildings in this Dept.- a few days more will close the work

I should be greatly pleased to occupy a position in the Department which has been so so wisely entrusted to your acknowledged skill, patriotism and discriminating entegrity.-

It is a cause nearest my heart of all earthly-
