We have received over one thousand destitute colored people at this camp and we have seldom more than three hundred at a time to draw rations for they have been employed or have taken land to work and after they had a months pay in advance we compelled them to support or partially their families and thus preparing them to manage for themselves and families

Last year we raised on a plantation assigned us by treasury agent 4000 bushel of corn about 8 bales cotton sorghum for thirty barrels of syrup but being compelled to evacuate last fall we lost all the loss of our camp was $12,000 which would have done much towards our support this year as we was determined to make the camp self sustaining last year we were bushwacked and lost our horses and some of our guards killed and much other damage

This year we have 1000 acres of cotton near 200 acres of corn 10 acres of sorghum and every family a garden we should have done more but we could not get teams untill late in the season

Since we took possession of this planation and put in our crops it has been decided by the treasury agent that it is
