not considered an abandoned plantation Mr Calhoun having been in France for four years past so I cannot report the amount of land daily assigned I took possession of our present locality because it was nearest to this post and not so much in danger of guerillas theirfore we shall have to find a new locality for next year

Last year one of my guards taught school at camp this year our children go to the City we have a school of 250 names on scholl record average 300 two male teachers and 2 female we are confined to a very small church belonging to the Freedmen no other can be had from the powers that be though their are churches and buildings vacant or was when we applied

Our numbers in camp is two hundred & forty five only eight are able bodied men the rest old men women & children

While we are laboring hard for good of thes long trodden down people in a temporal point of view our Sabbaths are employed in their spiritual advancement we have a large M.E. Society, of 100 members, a small Baptist society.

Very Respectfully Your
Obedient Servant
