Philadelphia, May 27 1865.

Major General O.O. Howard
In charge - Freedmen's Bureau
Washington, D.C.

My Dear General,

I find, on my return, that the evening appointed for the Ladies' Christian Commission meeting in Philadelphia is Friday, June 9th. They are very glad, indeed, to know that you have consented to come and, I have no doubt, will give you a grand reception.

Please remember that I expect you, with your wife, to be my guests - during your visit. I shall, at that time, be at my country seat, about 8 miles out of the city, on the Rail Road to New York. I hope to make you as comfortable as I can. In order to be ready for you, please drop me a line - saying in what train you will come [[strikethrough]] so that I will be ready for you [[/strikethrough]]

Very faithfully, yours
GEO. H. Stuart
