I would respectfully request from you any information you may be able to communicate respecting any or all of the following named colored persons formerly owned and kept by one William Wood of Edenton N.C. (Chowan Co.)

Joseph and Rebecca Wood, husband and wife — Penny, Clarissa, Thomas and Manuel Wood, children of Joseph and Rebecca. These persons are supposed to be in some one of the villages established by the Government for the benefit of Freedmen, and it is thought that they are either at Roanoke Island or Newbern N.C. Possibly they may be at Richmond or Petersburg. I am particularly desirous of obtaining information respecting the whereabouts of some one of these persons as there are in this vicinity two other members of this family who are exceedingly anxious to hear from their parents and brothers and sisters.
