Dear General.
I received last evening your order relieving Genl Wild, and have sent my Adjutant Genl. to Augusta to do so. I regret this necessity, for although Genl Wild had many faults, he has also many redeeming traits of character & is earnest and energetic, but lacking somewhat in system. I do not know in what way he has insured the displeasure of the Lieut Genl. I wish his objections, if unfounded, could in some way be removed. I have no officer to assign in his place and have asked Genl Steedman to detail one temporarily.

I beg General that you will send me a competent officer immediately for this important post. I have not nearly the number of officers
