an argument in the case upon certified copies of the records, and Gen'l Davis promises me that he will release the parties (6 in No) at once. At first he consented only to remit the fine, but I told him that would not satisfy me, and if he did anything in the matter he must release them at once, and entirely. I told him the case was before the country, and I was determined to ferret it out.- as it involved a great principle. He asked more time for consideration, and has at last wisely decided.

I will send you a complete report of the whole case, and of my proceedings.- If the parties are liberated it will be a great triumph for us.-
