THE ROCHESTER MEMORIAL ART GALLERY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER
Rochester 7, New York

December 19, 1960

Mrs. Eleanor Ward
Stable Gallery
924 7th Avenue
New York, N.Y.

Dear Mrs. Ward:

We are delighted to report that our Art Committee voted to purchase the fine Noguchi "Calligraphies" and requested me to express their appreciation to you for your heroic efforts to secure the piece for us. It will be a most happy and important addition to the Gallery's collection. You know, I am sure, how much Mrs. Moore and I love it.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stern - he is a member of our Board of Directors and she is an advisory member of the Art Committee and both of them have assembled an important collection of contemporary French and American art - are leaving soon for Japan and the South Seas. They will be in Japan for some time and are very eager to meet Mr. Noguchi, whom they met some time ago. Would you be willing to send me his address as soon as possible so that Mrs. Moore could write him an introductory note for them from the Gallery. We would greatly appreciate this courtesy.

The painting by Hauck unhappily arrived too late to be considered at the meeting. Since the Art Committee will not meet again until April, we are returning this painting to you.

Once again, our thanks to you for helping to steer the M.M.A to another Noguchi.

Sincerely,
Isabel C. Herdle
Associate Director
