MW---When you say very difficult, in what sense?

EM---Well, she was haughty, she didn't get on too well with people, as a whole. [[crossed-out]] And she was haughty. [[/crossed-out]] But she also had something else. She had a great sense of literary style, which few had.

MW---How was Neutra in that period? Did he come to visit Schindler once in a while?

EM---Never, from the time they broke up.

MW---When did this happen?

EM---Well, it was when Neutra came back from Europe. That's in Vienna to Los Angeles. [[crossed-out]] He, [[/crossed-out]] Schindler did not want to see him.

MW--- [[crossed-out]] How [[/crossed-out]] What was your impression to Neutra?

EM---I like Neutra's work very much. He was a man who was [[crossed-out]] just [[/crossed-out]] driven. [[crossed-out]] to get ahead. [[/crossed-out]] His ambitions were boundless. He wasn't a pleasant man at all, very childish.

MW---It seems to me that both of them, Schindler & Neutra, although there's some difference in period, their styles gradually change from the, what is called, international style into more personal style, is there any reason [[crossed-out]] to [[/crossed-out]] for this?

EM---[[crossed-out]] I would not say that [[/crossed-out]] The Kings road house was not international style at all.

MW---For example, Lovell beach house, although it was not the international style, has something similar to what other people were doing in Europe.

EM---Lovell beach house? I do not think that was similar to anything I know of. [[crossed-out]] in New York, if that is what you have in mind. [[/crossed-out]]

MW--- Well, in terms of the concept of the building, the Lovell house by Neutra is a [[crossed-out]] we call say, [[/crossed-out]] more straight response to the European modern movement. [[crossed-out]] In other words, if they made it more close to the international. [[/crossed-out]] Maybe, the word "international Style" is not very appropriate.

EM---The cubistic, yes, if you want to call that "International". [[crossed-out]] I would say, [[/crossed-out]]

MW---So, you think his was a more personal style from the beginning.

EM---[[crossed-out]] Well, I wouldn't say, personal. Because [[/crossed-out]] I don't know quite what [[crossed-out]] that [[/ crossed-out]] personal means. [[crossed-out]] But, I would say there were certain varieties in his style. [[/crossed-out]] His style varied. Take the Wolfe house.
