MW---So people tended to [[strikethrough]] more [[/strikethrough]] like [[strikethrough]] what you say [[/strikethrough]] the Europeans more than Wright.

EM---Yes. They felt that was the cheap way to build, and in step with [[strikethrough]] our [[/strikethrough]] the economy.

MW---I see.
Soriano's style is a little bit different from Ain's.

EM---Oh very. [[strikethrough]] For [[/strikethrough]] Soriano, [[strikethrough]] open space is important, it is really [[/strikethrough]] develops a universal, space, [[strikethrough]] that Soriano develops, and [[/strikethrough]] not the closed room that Neutra [[strikethrough]] always had.[[/strikethrough]] did. Neutra was much more private.

MW---Than Soriano?

EM---Yes. [[strikethrough]] So almost as if you said [[/strikethrough]] It's like saying that Neutra had secrets and [[strikethrough]] Soriano [[/strikethrough]] Ain had [[strikethrough]] none, and [[/strikethrough]] few, and Soriano [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] is the most open [[strikethrough]] up people [[/strikethrough]] of all. Soriano really was a technician. [[strikethrough]] He really did [[/strikethrough]] You know, he even made his own shop drawings even.

[[strikethrough]] MW ---Oh by himself? So like Schindler?
EM--- Yes [[/strikethrough]]

MW---Before going into the other people, which of the Soriano buildings do you think were the nicest?

EM---Well, I think the Shulman House was very fine. [[strikethrough]] I don't know what they exactly have done to it now. But it's having all sorts of small changes.[[/strikethrough]] The [[strikethrough]] meat lendriser factory and office---what's the name of that---that's fine-- -Adolph's house--- that's very fine. The house in--[[/strikethrough]] Adolph office building is great, and the Colby Apartments, the Dr. Cook House is very good. I like that very much. [[strikethrough]] He somehow did not---[[/strikethrough]] It's too bad that he couldn't [[strikethrough]] get cut down various things and get them in so they could be built as tracks.[[/strikethrough]] work with developers so his houses could be build as tracts. But many things he would not give up, because he thought they were absolutely necessary, you know, the amenities, and the aesthetics. [[strikethrough]] So, he should have had lots of rich clients to do---for his houses. Also the apartment house that he did in West L.A.[[/strikethrough]]

MW---In this book, people like Thornton Abell are not included. Do you think he's in this generation or he's different?

EM---He could have been in this book but there wasn't a room enough, and I'm so sorry that he's now [[strikethrough]] apparently dying, that [[/strikethrough]] ill, and no one has done a thorough study of him. I wish there had been more time [[strikethrough]] that I could've done various things. I should [[/strikethrough]] and space, for a
