Trek to Kew: bridges
gay & colored except
Putney is noble
Battersea Power Sta like noble EAG of teens, Berlage etc

2 to 6 - 3 hrs at Kew mostly lying on grass, finding a WC & drinking tea. Dinner at Shepherds market of Scotch broth, omelet & creme caramel. Couldn't sleep- Took a sleeping pill at 11 30 - Read Joan Didion: a stunning book- The freeway scenes superb; madness just something she thought should have happened but probably didn't. Mother-dau/ daughter/mother on shaky ground, as if a few eternal verities were recommended. Good was Maria/Carter relatships the movie scene and just generally the fresh view of LA. Enough. The feeling is that she had advice on making it a Big Picture, a fault N West never had. Also choppy & scattered as west isn't: the scene with psychic in Silverlake for instance. But she does the vignette so beautifully I can't object to her style. BZ she made rep out of observing & gossip of a dozen people which keeps it flatter than say BZ's wife. But then she "catches" women best.
