Then looking at this white clock, she realized that one hour had passed.

"Eleven hours to go," she smiled to herself, but really wondered how she would manage, having no attic in which to hide.

"What will I do when she calls me to dinner?--And Aunt Nancy!" Gigi shuddered at the thought.

The phone rang. It was her Aunt saying that she would be late and for Christi to serve dinner without her.

In a little while Christi called, "Supper's ready Gigi," she had evidently forgotten about the silence game.

Before long quick steps were heard coming down the hall. "Gigi, it's getting cold! Why can't you hear the first time? I suppose if you did, I'd lose ten pounds from shock," the nurse muttered. "Such a girl! In all my years---." By this time she had entered the room and seeing Gigi in the same position as before, stopped short and immediately changed her nagging tone to one of concern.

"Is there anything wrong Pet? Did something go wrong in school?? Speak to me Gigi! Are you ill?" She went on all in one breathe.

Circling the bed, she felt the child's head, for any noticeable rise in temperature. "Speak to me Gigi!" she said again, taking the little girl's chin in her hand.

Gigi had a difficult time keeping back a smile.

Christi bent over and grasping Gigi's hand lifted one arm in the air, but when she let go of it, Gigi let it fall helplessly to her side.
